HUAIRA SINCHI: An Adventure Race in Ecuador. It was tough, but so worth it!
On Sunday november 4th. the Huaira Sinchi -the highest adventure race in the world- ended. It was supposed to end on Saturday, but it was extremely tough and only 2 teams finished the race on Saturday late night. The team “Cordillera-Equipos Cotopaxi” sponsored by Barefoot Expeditions, finished in fourth place in the experts category. They completed a little more than the 300 km. of the race because they got lost for about 8 hours on friday night, and they had to vivac in the middle of the paramo.
The team stayed strong and continued the race while other 7 teams of the category quit the race. Our team had to spend 3 nights without sleeping, only resting for about 2 hours a day.
For the Barefoot Expeditions support team, it was also a tough task to tackle. Diego had to stay awake and drive 4 days straight for the full duration of the race.
Everything was so worth it! Diego was able to get to wonderful places that are usually restricted for tourism. He discovered some excellent locations and trekkings that will be included in the Barefoot Expedition´s adventure programs.
Once again congratulations to Nicolás, Alexa, Gogol & Byron, it was a great experience to serve them as a support team, and we hope we can continue as part of the team in their next adventure race.
