Napo River Festival 2008 | Barefoot Expeditions Is a Sponsor
Napo River Festival is finally here. Four days from today (01/07/2008) the Napo River Festival will take place. As we mentioned in our previous post about the Napo River Festival, Barefoot Expeditions will be there and if you are traveling to Ecuador or are in Ecuador during those days you are more than welcome to join us.
Why is the Napo River Festival important?
TheNapo River is important because it is the last major tributary of the Amazon River in Ecuador which remains free-flowing and has minimal development and contamination in its headwaters. The Napo watershed hosts some of the greatest levels of biodiversity found on the planet. One hectare (~2.5 acres) of primary rainforest can have more representative plant species than are found in all of North America. More than 500 different species of fish are found in the Napo River alone.
Why is Barefoot Expeditions sponsoring the Napo River Festival?
Because we believe that unique and bio-diverse areas should be conserved and kept pristine. We stand for zero-impact mind-blowing and luxurious adventure travel and we believe that giving back to the community and the environment is the best way to demonstrate a true commitment to our guiding principles. The Festival supports the Ecuadorian Rivers Institute. They are an organization in charge of raising awareness about the environmental issues threatening the Ecuadorian jungle valley and rivers.
