The Olympic Kayak Slalom

Submitted by on August 12, 2008 – 10:01 amShare No Comment
Thanks to Ilona for this post about the Olympics
All the sport-loving people do have a exciting time during the Olympics. It’s great to see the athletes, who trained for so many years, competing in their events.
Today was the final of the Kayak Slalom for men. The slalom events require the paddlers to negotiate 20 to 25 gates in turbulent water over a 300-meter course. Competitors aim to complete the course in the shortest time, factoring in penalties.
Every country can send one paddler in each event, depending also the world ranking. Ecuador didn’t compete, but as a country with great kayak possibilities, competing in London 2012 could be an aim!
Alexander Grimm from Germany won the gold medal in the Kayak (K1) Men’s competition in a time of 171.70 (semi-final and final time together). Second was Fabien Lefevre (173.30) from France and third Benjamin Boukpeti (173.45) from Togo. (results)
I wish everybody a lot of fun watching the Olympics!
