Quito and Baños: Winners of the 2008 Traveler’s Choice Awards.

Submitted by on June 6, 2008 – 9:44 amShare 2 Comments

We are happy to learn that Ecuador has two locations in the 2008 Top 25 destinations in South America. We have covered Quito before in this blog. Quito, the capital of Ecuador, located at 2800m of altitude has many cultural activity and great accommodation options, from bed and breakfast hostels to luxurious boutique hotels.

Quito is a great “base camp” to visit many interesting places such as Otavalo Indigenous Market (2 hours away), the Cloud Forest in the westerns side of the andes (2 hours away), Lagoons in the craters of extinguished volcanos, and only three hours away from Cotopaxi, the highest active, snow-capped volcano in the world (5897m).

On the other hand, Baños is a wonderful little town located between the Andes and the Amazon jungle. This little town has several options for activities and luxurious accommodations. Our trips usually include a 2 or 3 day stay in Baños because it has adventure sports nearby and adventure spas with luxurious accommodations available, and great night life. It is always very nice to go to a comfortable bed with a nice hot shower after bouncing around the Andes mountains the entire day
