Children’s Hospitals in Ecuador. The Sad reality

Submitted by on April 11, 2008 – 2:27 pmShare 5 Comments

Last week I had to take care of my six year old cousin in a public hospital in Quito. Yesterday he left the hospital and is recovering from an appendectomy with the loving care of parents, cousins, brothers, grandmother and uncles.

But it is very sad to see that some others kids are not as lucky as he is. It was really sad and impressive to see little kids treated like adults. Kids that have spend months laying in a hospital bed, mothers waking up in the middle of the night to the drugstore to buy the medicine for their convalescent kids. The medicine is provided by the hospital is scarce.

Luckily, I had the chance to help two of my cousin´s hospital roommates. But I wish I could do more for them.

A smile, a toy, a coloring book makes a big difference while they are there!

If you are comming to Ecuador, and feel like making this kids life happier, please contact us, we can arrange a visit to the hospital.

Incredible. That is something that we should remind people during the trips. Extending a hand to children in need is one of the best things one can do.

    Hi Tanya,

That would be wonderful! If you have the time and some extra space in you bags. I am 100% sure Carolina can arrange for the coloring books to the hospital. If you have time and are interested you might be able to visit the hospital and deliver the gifts yourself.

Thanks and have a great trip!

    Antonio.
