On October 27th. one of the most important Argentine pop/rock bands of the ’80s and early ’90s, SODA STEREO presented a concert in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in their tour 2007 “Me verás volver”. Sold out bus and plane tickets, no vacancy in the hotels and thousands of people from Quito and Cuenca invaded Guayaquil this weekend. But the adventure of travelling was worth for the 35.000 people who enjoyed a superb spectacle: An Splendid lights show boosted Gustavo Cerati´s voice, just as powerful and intense as it was 10 years ago when the group dissolved.

For Barefoot Pathfinders, the concert turned out to be a good excuse to drive 8 hours to Guayaquil through beautiful landscapes. We spent the sunrise in the base of Chimborazo, the highest mountain of Ecuador (6310 m., 20 700 ft.) and only 3 hours later we were at sea level in Guayaquil, isn´t it amazing!!. And once in Guayaquil, so many places to enjoy: “Parque Histórico”, “Escalinata al Faro”, “Malecón 2000”, everything just beautiful. It is very interesting to remember that in former decades, Guayaquil was considered the most dangerous, unpleasant and dirty city of the country, but the good local administration of the last 8 years turned in the nice and modern city it is nowadays. To finish our trip through Guayaquil, a couple of good friends took us to a traditional restaurant where we had the chance to taste the popular “viagra”, a seafood stew crowned by an enormous and delicious red crab.

If you have the chance to travel to Guayaquil for a couple of days, contact us, we can tell you a little more about our experience in Guayaquil. And if you are close to any of the destinations of Soda Stereo 2007 tour, you should assist, it is a superb show!!
