Vuelta al Cotopaxi: Barefoot Expeditions sponsors women’s teams
The Barefoot Pathfinders blog is all about real adventurers. All the members of the Barefoot Expeditions team are always trying to find a way to form professional expeditions abroad and to compete internationally. We have climbed important mountains in Argentina (Aconcagua), Bolivia (Sajama, Illimani, Huayna Potosi, Ancohuma), Peru (The Sphinx, Artesonraju, Alpamayo) and Europe (Mont Blanc, Cervino). Diego Altamirano, our CEO has lead the Ecuadorian National Rafting Team in two World Rafting Championships in (Czech Republic 2002, Korea 2006).
Raising funds for these kind of adventures in Ecuador has always been a tough task. A lot had to do with self funding, family funding as well as university funding while we were students. Governmental sports federations and local private companies also helped.
Last week two young women, Constanza and Antonella, knocked on our door asking for any kind of support for the “Vuelta al Cotopaxi” mountain biking race. In their faces I could see my own. Not to long ago when I was asking for funding for my next expedition to Spain (Naranjo de Bulnes) that will take place on July 2008. My answer to them was obviously, YES.
Barefoot Expeditions will sponsor two women’s teams in the Vuelta al Cotopaxi mountain biking race. The first one is “LA EQUIPO DE LA CONTI” composed by Constanza Carrasco & Andrea Bustos. The other team is “CICLO WARMIS” (warmis means women in Quechua language) composed by Antonella Carrasco & Elisa Levy.
